A longtime deputy in Maryland died in the line of duty this week, the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office announced.
Deputy Mark Porter, a retired sergeant, died on Tuesday, July 1, while on the job, the agency confirmed Wednesday.

'Cut And Run' Hollywood Man Caught After Snipping Off GPS Monitor, Fleeing Before Trial
A Southern Maryland man who snipped off his ankle monitor and disappeared while awaiting trial has been caught, authorities said.
Andrew Phillip Nelson, 29, of Hollywood, was apprehended without incident on Wednesday, May 28, in Mechanicsville, according to the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office.
Nelson had been on the run since April 21, when deputies responded to a tampering alert from his GPS monitoring device in the 43000 block of Saint Johns Road in Hollywood.
