Nearby Officer, Neighbor Save Virginia Family From Flames: Report
A Virginia family escaped a Monday, April 22 house fire unscathed, authorities said.
Flames were shooting from the home on the 15000 block of Merrily Way in Woodbridge, when firefighters arrived before dawn, according to the Prince William County Fire Department.
According to NBC Washington, a nearby, on-duty officer noticed the fire and began pounding on the door. A neighbor was wailing on her horn in an apparent effort to wake the family up, the outlet said.
Moments later, two adults, their son, and the family dogs left the home.

Sisters On Vacation Killed In Hamptons House Fire
Police have released the names of two sisters who were killed during an early-morning house fire on Long Island.
The victims, Jillian Wiener, age 21, and Lindsay Wiener, age 19, both of Potomac, Maryland, were killed in the Southampton hamlet of Noyac around 3:30 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 3 on Spring Lane.
The family was vacationing from Maryland, said Lt. Susan Ralph, of the Southampton Police.
The children, including the girl's brother Zachary, age 23, were sleeping on the second floor, and the parents were sleeping on the first floor, Ralph said.

Weekend Explosion Damages Three Middlesex County Homes
An explosion related to an early-morning fire damaged three Central Jersey homes over the weekend.
Helmetta's volunteer firefighters responded to 1 High St. around 3 a.m. Sunday, and put out the fire that broke out.
The subsequent explosion was caused by propane tanks on a trailer, initial reports says.
No injuries were reported, though three homes were damaged, the Helmetta OEM said.
The Helmetta Volunteer Fire Department, Fire Marshal’s Office, DPW, Spotswood police, Spotswood EMS, Spotswood OEM, Middlesex County Hazmat, and Sayreville Building Department all responded.
