A Long Island mom is facing charges after leaving her toddler son alone in a running vehicle while she went shopping, police said.
The incident happened in Deer Park, at the Tanger Outlets on the Arches Circle, on Thursday morning, June 12.
A passerby flagged down security at around 11:15 a.m. after spotting a toddler alone in a car seat inside a running SUV, Suffolk County Police said. The boy, 21 months old, had been left alone for around 20 minutes, according to police.

Abusive Stepfather Tormented Children 'Almost Every Day' In Abingdon: Prosecutors
A Maryland stepfather who physically tormented two children nearly every day, leaving them with lasting injuries, has been convicted of child abuse and assault, prosecutors announced.
Douglas Grazuties, 36, of Middle River, was found guilty of second-degree child abuse, two counts of second-degree assault, and two counts of reckless endangerment following a three-day jury trial in Harford County Circuit Court.
According to prosecutors, Child Protective Services was called to a home in Abingdon on Jan. 10, 2024, after receiving a safety concern regarding two minor children.

Cynthia Moore, 41, of Montgomery Village, was found guilty by a judge of six counts of child neglect following a seven-day bench trial, the Montgomery State's Attorney's Office announced Wednesday, Oct. 16.
