The storm did not have to move fast to leave a big mark.
A slow-moving, moisture-rich system dumped widespread rainfall totals of 3 to 6 inches across parts of the Northeast over Sunday, July 5, and Monday, July 6, according to the National Weather Service.
Some isolated spots in New York and Connecticut approached 8 to 10 inches, especially where heavy downpours moved over the same areas more than once.

A grieving family is demanding justice after a Cambridge city worker and father of a 5-year-old boy was shot to death while off duty, leaving loved ones and neighbors searching for answers.
Xavier Bautista, 32, was fatally shot shortly before 4:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 4, near the intersection of Broadway and Norfolk Street, steps from Sennott Park in Cambridge. A passerby discovered him around 5:30 a.m. and called 911, according to the Middlesex District Attorney's Office. Bautista was pronounced dead at the scene.
