A Reading man faces felony charges for illegal possession of firearms, according to the Berks County District Attorney's Office.
James Freeman-Neely, 48, was arrested on July 13 for simple assault, said prosecutors in a release on Tuesday, July 30.
The alleged victim of the assault was granted a Protection From Abuse order (PFA) against Freeman-Neely, which required the 48-year-old to "relinquish all firearms, weapons, and ammunition" to the Berks Sheriff's Office, authorities said.

A convicted drug trafficker from Long Island will spend decades in prison for selling fentanyl that caused a man’s fatal overdose on Christmas Day.
Marlon Thompson, age 42, of Selden, was sentenced to 30 years behind bars in Central Islip federal court on Tuesday, May 21.
It followed his December 2022 jury conviction on four counts including conspiracy to distribute cocaine, heroin, and fentanyl, and being a felon in possession of firearms.
According to prosecutors, Thompson sold hard drugs throughout Suffolk County between January 2017 and May 2019.

An Anne Arundel County man was sentenced to eight years behind bars for fentanyl possession and distribution, authorities announced Thursday, May 14.
Orlando Ray Coleman, Sr., 44, of Millersville, was sentenced to eight years in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute fentanyl, US Attorney for the District of Maryland Erek L. Barron said in a joint release.

Three people were were arrested outside a hotel in Secaucus on Saturday, July 16 and charged with possessing two handguns and a large quantity of drugs, including 35 bags of heroin, authorities said.
At 10:20 a.m., the Secaucus Police Anti-Crime Unit was patrolling the area near Extended Stay Hotel when they observed a drug deal, Police Chief Dennis Miller said. Police then stopped one of the cars involved in the drug deal and saw a digital scale used to weigh narcotics, Miller said.

Three men were indicted on Wednesday, June 28 after they committed a spree of robberies and a carjacking in Union and Essex counties, authorities said.
Isaiah Barrett, a 33-year-old Elizabeth resident, Alfred Pierre, a 37-year-old Roselle resident and Daron Thomas, a 32-year-old East Orange resident began their month-long string of crimes last December, committing robberies in Roselle, Linden, Elizabeth and Orange, Union County Prosecutor William Daniel said.
