Dear Editor,

It is abhorrent that a candidate who would not even debate publicly with her opponent for a seat as county legislator, despite Mr. Tyner's frequent requests for such debate, would try to gain political traction by smearing his good name.

As a Jewish woman and member of the Chabad community of Rhinebeck, I resent anyone who lies about the humanitarian and unprejudiced character of Joel Tyner by calling him "antisemitic."

I have known Joel for 10 years. I have heard his views on economic, social, environmental and political subjects of all kinds. I know how he tries to support those experiencing economic or health instability, and works for justice in many areas. At no time has he said anything vaguely hurtful/ harmful to or prejudiced against Jews or any other racial / religious/ ethnic group. Joel's wife is Jewish, many of his friends are Jewish -- and I resent this stupid attempt at distraction from the issues that matter right now: which candidate is totally honest and not in it for "the money", who has excellent ideas that will help the citizens of our district and the land where we live, and who is willing to work tirelessly to push for their implementation.

Thank you for your attention, Marcia Slatkin
