Dear Editor:
First-- Mr. Gannon calls it "ironic" that apparently according to him that it's only just "now" that I'm responding to his letters, but the truth is that I've always responded to them-- whether they've been published or not.
In fact, a while ago Mr. Gannon and I corresponded on the issue of property taxes. As Mr. Gannon may recall, I've publicly pressed the Hyde Park Town Board to do a revaluation of properties there so that Town of Clinton residents who live in the Hyde Park School District are no longer unfairly punished with artificially high school property taxes.
The fact is also that I've actually succeeded in getting some bipartisan support in our County Legislature for a county-level option here in Dutchess to completely eliminate school property taxes and fund local public schools through income taxes instead (the letter I circulated in 2105 in support of Bonacic/Cahill/Gipson legislation on this was signed by County Legislators Micki Strawinski and Francena Amparo; some GOP support as well):

This work needs to continue-- it's beyond ridiculous that still to this day in 2017, local seniors and others are literally taxed out of their homes by skyrocketing property taxes.
Second-- again-- kudos to a true statesman, Tom Traudt, for agreeing to publicly debate me two years ago not only once but twice (Carbonaro ignored my polite letters to her since July offering several dozen open dates for debate at both Rhinebeck and Clinton Town Halls).
Regarding Gannon's lie about debate attendance, just ask any of the 20 folks who showed up at Clinton Town Hall last Tuesday or any of the 30 folks who showed up last Thursday at Rhinebeck Town Hall about the numbers/attendance.
It's bad enough that Carbonaro too cowardly to show up to defend the nasty attacks her campaign has made on me for months; unforgivable and unconsionable, frankly, for Gannon to lie about the numbers of those present for her no-shows.
