A teen has been arrested and faces numerous charges after an alleged break-in and theft of items from a vehicle in Hyde Park, police say.

Hyde Park Police received a call from a Springwood Circle resident on Thursday, Nov. 29 to report that someone had allegedly burglarized his vehicle and taken multiple items.

Upon further investigation, officers received a separate complaint from another Springwood Circle resident regarding an apartment that had been broken into during the night. Police were able to identify a possible suspect as 19-year-old Bill Jimenez, Jr. of Hyde Park.

Jimenez was found to have possession of all the items that had been reported stolen from the vehicle and the apartment.

Thursday, Nov. 22 around 6:20 a.m., Jimenez called police and alleged that an unknown male climbed through his window and stole a television. Jimenez also claimed that he tried to stop the burglar but was slashed on his shoulder, resulting in minor injuries.

The investigation revealed that Jimenez had been lying about the break-in at his residence to cover up a larceny of a television.

Jimenez was remanded to Dutchess County Jail on $15,000 cash or $30,000 bail bond. He faces multiple charges, including:

  • Burglary, a Class C felony
  • Petit larceny, a Class A misdemeanor (two counts)
  • Criminal mischief, a Class A misdemeanor
  • Attempted criminal mischief, a Class B felony
  • Falsely reporting an incident, a Class B misdemeanor

The subject is scheduled to appear in the Town of Hyde Park Justice Court on Tuesday, Dec. 4 at 2 p.m.
