PLEASANT VALLEY, N.Y. – A Pleasant Valley couple was arrested during the last week as part of an ongoing murder investigation by state police in New York and South Carolina sheriffs.
Charles Cole, 48, was arrested on Friday for second-degree murder after being discovered in a homeless shelter in Poughkeepsie. His wife, 40-year old Ronalda Cole, was arrested on charges of tampering with physical evidence on Oct. 18.
The Coles face charges connected to the murder of Charles Cole's mother, 76-year old Betty Cole, as Charles Cole allegedly strangled her in August while she was staying at the Pleasant Valley Motel.
After keeping Betty Cole's body at the motel for seven weeks, Charles Cole later drove with his wife to South Carolina to dispose of the body in a wooded area in the Town of Lodge, near Interstate 95, police said.
The couple was arraigned in Pleasant Valley Town Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail. Charles Cole is jailed without bail. Ronalda Cole is on $10,000 bail.
