A Hudson Valley man was busted by state police after allegedly stealing thousands in unemployment benefits while being gainfully employed in Dutchess County.
New York State Police troopers out of Rhinebeck arrested 30-year-old Germantown resident Michael Willams on Monday following an investigation into financial misappropriations by the New York State Department of Labor.
According to police, Williams collected $6,682.50 in unemployment benefits while he was still working in Hyde Park.
Williams was arrested and charged with first-degree falsifying business records, a felony. He was released on his own recognizance and is due back in the Town of Hyde Park Justice Court in November to answer the charge.
