Bill Jameison died at the Ferncliff Nursing Home in Rhinebeck just hours after his daughter Jessica, who was born with Down's Syndrome and suffered from Alzheimer's Disease.
Born in Manhattan on June 16, 1929, to Dr. Frances and Dr. Gerald R. Jameison, Bill was raised in White Plains, where he enjoyed fly fishing, skiing, shooting, and horseback riding. He was a pilot later in life and enjoyed flying his Piper Cherokee, "2-9-Whiskey".
Bill studied medicine at Albany Medical College and then interned the Westchester Medical Center in White Plains where he During his surgical residency at Westchester Medical Center, Bill met his future wife, Marie Vinci, a surgical nurse.
Following his surgical residency, Bill served his country as a U.S. Army surgeon, based at Ft. Jackson Army Hospital in Columbia, S.C.
Following his Army service, Bill and his family moved to Rhinebeck, where he accepted the role of Northern Dutchess Hospital's primary general surgeon. Rhinebeck became the long-time home where his children were raised.
Bill was predeceased by his parents; Gerald Reid and Frances Halsted Jameison, his sister Charlotte Edgar, and by mere hours, his daughter Jessica.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marie, his brother, Tim Jameison, and sister, Frances. He is also survived by his three sons and their families, Gerald (Shari) Jameison of Rhinebeck; Robert (Kris) Jameison of Gambier, Ohio, and William H. (Alexandria) Jameison of Red Hook; three grandchildren (Alex, Nicholas, and Andrew) and many nieces and nephews.
Jessica was born in 1969 and graduated in 1990 (her favorite saying). She had a wonderful sense of humor and a smile a mile long.
She loved sports in the Special Olympics and was a champion bowler, swimmer, softball thrower, track and field runner, and later, Bocce player.
Jessica enjoyed movies and classic rock music and had many special friends and families in her life. She also had a very nice sweetheart for many years; John Boland.
A service for both Bill and Jessica will be held from 11 a.m. to noon Tuesday, March 7, at the Dapson Chestney Funeral Home, 51 W. Market St., Rhinebeck. Funeral service will follow. Private interment will be held at the Rhinebeck Cemetery.
