Patricia M. Sherman, 71, Formerly Of Red Hook

RED HOOK, N.Y. – Patricia M. Sherman, a resident of Sneads Ferry, N.C. and formerly of Red Hook, died Thursday, July 7. She was 71.

Born Nov. 26, 1944, in Queens, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Maybelle (Keller) Stolz.

She earned her education degrees from SUNY New Paltz. She worked for many years at the Red Hook Central Schools and was remembered as an "icon of the district" as a teacher and principal at Mill Road School and assistant to the superintendent for curriculum. During this time, she forged a relationship between the school and Bard College, helping to create the Arts in Education Program.

She was a member of Phi Delta Kappa International Association of Professional Educators and was involved with the Dutchess County Arts Council. Upon moving to Sneads Ferry, N.C., she became involved in that community, including the Sneads Ferry Historical Society and Topsail Island Museum.

She is survived by her husband, Bob Yost of Sneads Ferry, N.C.; her daughter and son-in-law, Tara and Todd Grieb of Red Hook; her sister, Jacqueline Albers of Sneads Ferry, N.C.; her grandchildren, Peyton Horst, Kelcie Horst, and Trevor Grieb; a niece and nephew; and many extended family, colleagues and friends.

A local celebration of her life will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, at Burnett & White Funeral Homes, 7461 S. Broadway, Red Hook. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-7 p.m.
