Elma T. Carlson, 88, Of Rhinebeck

RHINEBECK, N.Y. – Elma T. Carlson, a resident of Rhinebeck, died Thursday, April 14. She was 88.

She was born on June 12, 1928, in Poughkeepsie to Leonard and Myrtle Travis. She graduated from Arlington schools, the U.S. Cadet Nurses Corps RN at Westchester School of Nursing in Valhalla and Cushman Indian Hospital in Tacoma, Wash. She worked in private-duty nursing in Westchester County, as an insurance broker in Salt Point, N.Y., on the board of directors for Heritage Mutual Insurance Co. in Pine Plains and as a multimedia artist in Pleasant Valley.

She was a member of the Brush and Palette Artists, the Barrett arts Center, the Pleasant Valley Free Library board of directors and the Dutchess County Mental Health Association board of directors. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Pleasant Valley and was an elder and former director of Christian education.

She is survived by her son, John L. Carlson; her daughter Linda S. and husband Peter Happenny; one grandchild, Rhondinna Beermunder; her son Peter Carlson and companion Debra Dillinger of Stanfordville.

She was predeceased by her brothers, Paul Travis and Wilbur Travis.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held Friday, April 22, at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Pleasant Valley, with family visitation from 10-10:45 a.m. There will be a private burial at the Schultzville Cemetery at the discretion of the family.
