State police in Rhinebeck announced on Thursday the arrest of Red Hook resident Jacob Bump, who has been charged with felony counts of insurance fraud, falsifying business records and falsely reporting an incident, a misdemeanor.
According to police, last fall, Bump reported to the Red Hook Police Department that his 37-foot Boston Whaler powerboat had drifted away from its mooring in the Hudson River. He subsequently made an insurance claim and received approximately $480,000.
Police said that a subsequent investigation into the claim revealed that Bump’s boat had never been missing and was located last month in Lindenhurst in Suffolk County, Long Island, while still in Bump’s possession.
Bump was arraigned in the Village of Red Hook Court and released on his own recognizance. He is due back in court on Wednesday, June 21.
