An incident with a single inmate caused a temporary lockdown at the Dutchess County Jail late last week, according to jail administrator Michael Walters.

The lockdown, where inmates are kept in their cells, took place Friday after one inmate became unruly and it took several corrections officers to calm him down and take him to the medical unit, Walters said.

Two corrections officers were slightly injured, but according to Walters, the incident was "Corrections 101," meaning this type of event is a routine occurrence at most correction's facility.

"We (corrections officers) deal with this type of incident daily," he added. "It was not a really big event."

A lockdown is used during the incidents so that the inmate can be safely moved without other inmates being harmed.

The incident lasted about an hour.
