Pastry Garden Serves Up Sweet, Freshly-Baked Surprises In Dutchess

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Pastry Garden has been serving up some of the sweetest pastries, pies, cakes and cookies in the Poughkeepsie area for the last 40 years.

Owner Stephanie Principe said the bakery has become best known for its cakes.

"We do a lot of wedding cakes, triple chocolate cakes... cakes are our biggest thing," Principe told Daily Voice. "And we do a lot of specialty cakes, as well as great cookies and pastries.'

Customers apparently approve, as the Pastry Garden has been named No. 1 in both the Best Bakery and Best Dessert categories by Hudson Valley Magazine - every year for the last 20 years.

The bakery also has a Facebook page, and Principe said social media has been a good thing,

"Facebook has been great for us," she said. "Social media really helps, we get great reviews, and we've been around for so many years, so we've had a great run - and we're very proud of it."
