Astor, a nonprofit organization headquartered in Rhinebeck, provides children's mental health services, child welfare services and early childhood development programs in New York State's mid-Hudson Valley and the Bronx.

Through Astor’s Adopt-A-Family program, individuals, schools, youth groups and others collected gifts, including through workplace and church toy drives.

Numerous individuals and businesses ‘adopted families’ by donating toys, home goods and other basic needs items for some of Astor’s neediest children and families, according to a release from Astor.

Some organizations adopted all the children in an entire Astor program, purchasing and delivering gifts as well as providing entertainment for them, the release said.

Astor’s Executive Director and CEO James McGuirk, Ph.D., said he was grateful for the thoughtfulness and caring of so many people on behalf of Astor’s children and families.

“I remain in a place of gratitude for the generosity and kindness of our donors, who truly made this holiday season a memorable one for our children and their families,” said McGuirk. “I want to thank all our current and new donors who participated in our program. It shows that our community cares about children and families in need. We, at Astor, truly appreciate the community’s continued support.”

In addition to many people, the following companies and organizations supported Astor’s 2016 Adopt-A-Family holiday program: Adeline Malone Law Office; Allstate Insurance; Central Hudson Energy Group; The Community of Brookmeade; Cooperkatz & Company; Families For Astor Committee; Guardian Self Storage; Koerner Construction; Global Foundries; HealthQuest Medical Practice; Heckler & O'Keefe, CPS, P.C.; Hudson Valley Federal Credit Union; Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson; Laerdal Medical Corp.; Le Petit Bistro; NFP Corporate Services, LLC; Omega Institute of Holistic Studies; Paula Redmond Real Estate; Protiviti; Rondout Savings Bank; RP Hubbell and Company, Inc.; Smith Metropolitan AME Zion Church; Topical BioMedics; and Quality Billing Service, Inc.
