“The Basics: Memory loss, dementia and Alzheimer’s disease,” will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. on Thursday, June 9, at Adelphi University Hudson Valley Campus at 19 Baker Ave. in Poughkeepsie. The program offers information on detection, causes, risk factors, stages of the disease and more. The event is open to the public as well as students and faculty. For more information or to RSVP, call the Alzheimer’s Association Hudson Valley Chapter at (800) 272-3900.

“Know the 10 Signs: Early Detection Matters” will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 8, in the Charwat Room at Adriance Memorial Library at 93 Market St. in Poughkeepsie. This program provides information to help recognize the 10 warning signs of Alzheimer’s disease. Early detection is important because it leaves more time to start drug therapy, enroll in clinical studies and plan for the future. For more information or to RSVP, call the Alzheimer’s Association Hudson Valley Chapter at (800) 272-3900.

Music Socials for people with middle-stage Alzheimer’s disease and their family caregivers are held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. every fourth Thursday of the month at Wingate at Dutchess at 3 Summit Ct. in Fishkill and from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on the first Thursday of every month at Wingate at Ulster at 1 Wingate Way in Highland. These free, interactive musical sessions with Certified Music Therapist Melinda Burgard are a great opportunity for people with Alzheimer’s disease to get out, socialize and have some fun. Preregistration is required; call Care Consultant Elizabeth Johnson at (800) 272-3900. These programs are supported in part by a grant from the New York State Department of Health.
