The 95-room hotel is expected to be completed and ready to open next November. Kenneth Stenger, attorney for Stenger, Roberts, Davis & Diamond, the law firm representing the Hyatt firm, said the hotel chain felt there was a demand for higher-end lodgings in Dutchess.

"We've developed a tremendous college population and a tremendous tourism industry," Stenger said. "That growth exceeded the capacity of the existing lodging infrastructure in central and northern Dutchess."

The hotel will generate $500,000 a year in tax revenue for the Spackenkill Union Free School District and town, Stenger said.

Research from Hyatt found that people who stay at their hotels spend more money and stay in communities longer than just an overnight stay.

"Maybe they'll spend the next day by visiting the walkway or the Vanderbilt Mansion," Stenger said. "This will bring money to our community."

Construction of the hotel will create 100 jobs. Once the hotel is completed, there will 30-35 full-time jobs, Stenger said.
