The event fulfills Mayor Rob Rolison's campaign pledge to bring the buzz back to Poughkeepsie.

The First Fridays celebrate the city’s cultural, dining and entertainment offerings.

“I ran on a campaign of bringing the buzz back to Poughkeepsie and am excited to continue doing that with First Friday Poughkeepsie," said Mayor Rolison. “Over the past few weeks, we’ve been reaching out to local businesses, community leaders, civic groups and cultural organizations. The response has been fantastic."

Dutchess County Executive Marcus Molinaro has praised the initiative and will be joining Rolison for the April 1 inaugural event.

“Dutchess County’s close relationship with the City of Poughkeepsie has helped to foster the reemergence of Poughkeepsie’s prominence as the Queen City. Our support of the First Friday Poughkeepsie initiative falls in line with our goal of igniting a Revitalization Revolution in Dutchess County by working together to strengthen our economy and bolster tourism,” said Molinaro.

Dutchess County employees are encouraged to stay in the city April 1 after 5 p.m. for the First Friday launch.

Businesses are encouraged to participate in showcasing "the best of the City of Poughkeepsie," said Frank Castella, Jr., the president and CEO of the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce,

On April 1, the program of events will begin at 5:15 pm with a kick-off ceremony at Poughkeepsie’s Bardavon 1869 Opera House, co-hosted by Mayor Rolison and County Executive Molinaro.

The ceremony will be free and is open to the public.

Following remarks by officials, participants are invited to walk with them to Main Street where restaurants and businesses will be offering promotional specials and entertainment.
