Travel in Dutchess County may be restricted on Wednesday afternoon as the worst of the winter weather is expected to hit the Hudson Valley.
Dutchess County remains under a Winter Storm Warning, which will be in effect until 7 a.m. on Thursday morning. Light snow fell in the region during the morning, which steadily increased into the afternoon.
Officials said that snow may fall at a rate of two inches per hour, with an accumulation of up to nine inches expected in the afternoon, and as many as seven more inches overnight, leaving “hazardous travel conditions this afternoon, particularly during the evening commute on Wednesday.
Dutchess County government offices were set to close at 1 p.m. Officials from the Dutchess County Emergency Operations Center said that travel restrictions are possible in the afternoon if the snow increases.Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro, who is currently at the Dutchess County Emergency Operations Center, stated, “this is a fluid storm and we are monitoring it closely. With conditions already compromised from last week’s storm, we are advising residents to use extreme caution and common sense throughout this storm.”
