A stretch of the Taconic State Parkway has reopened around 9:15 a.m. after severe icing and a multi-vehicle pileup led to its closure on the northbound side earlier Thursday morning.

The pileup occurred north of Knapp Road near the Putnam/Dutchess border with the closure between Route 301 and I-84 in Putnam.

There was stop-go traffic on westbound I-84 after a crash took out the left lane at Lime Kiln Road (Exit 15), with delays to the Taconic State Parkway (Exit 16) just before 9 a.m.

A pre-dawn crash involving a jackknifed tractor-trailer that initially closed two lanes at the start of the span of the new Tappan Zee Bridge in Tarrytown caused gridlock throughout the Thursday morning commute.

A quick-moving Alberta Clipper system moved through the area overnight, leading to a coating to an inch of snow and slick conditions, resulting in delayed starts for many school districts.
