Under the new budget, tuition will increase by $168 annually. The college’s 2017-18 budget is up 1 percent from the current $66.1 million, causing the four percent rise in tuition.

The budget also calls for a $1 million increase in the county’s contribution to the college, with the county kicking in $14,537,898 to the school.

Even with the increase, the school will continue to have the lowest community college tuition in the state, school officials said.

The legislature voted 22 to 1 for the approval with Legislator Joel Tyner voting against it; two legislators were absent.
