Maloney Selfie On GOP Health Care Bill Defeat Big Hit On Twitter

Democratic U.S. Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney, whose district includes parts of Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess, made his emotions clear after the Republican Obamacare replacement plan was pulled from the House of Representatives' floor on Friday afternoon just before a scheduled vote after it became apparent the bill did not have enough GOP support to pass.

"We're not tired of winning yet," Maloney tweeted. "Ready when you are to talk real solutions to fix ACA for American people."

Both President Donald Trump and House Speaker Paul Ryan pushed hard for Republican members of Congress to cast yes votes and send the bill to the U.S. Senate for consideration.

The move came after an early afternoon meeting at the White House between Trump and Ryan and a day after Trump issued an ultimatum to House Republicans to vote for the bill or live with Obamacare, which was enacted seven years ago.

“We just pulled it,” President Trump told the Washington Post's Robert Costa in a telephone conversation at around 3:30 p.m.

Trump's decision keeps the Affordable Care Act in place for now, while the years-long Republican promise to "Repeal and Replace Obamacare" remains unfulfilled.

One Republican congressman from the Hudson Valley, John Faso, whose upstate district includes Eastern Dutchess, indicated he was among approximately 150 GOP members of the House who planned on voting yes or was leaning toward voting yes.
