Terry Gipson, a former one-term state senator who represented Putnam and Dutchess in the 41st district, said he is considering a Democratic primary against Cuomo when he runs for a third term next year.

"New York deserves a real Democratic governor that will lead our party and move true Democratic policy forward," Gipson, who lives in Rhinebeck, said in a July 19 email to NY Progressive Action Network.

On social media, Gipson has been a harsh critic of Cuomo.

"Are we really going to allow this Governor to keep rewarding his donors with our tax dollars for another 4 years," Gipson posted Thursday.

Gipson has also criticized for his handling of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, skirting campaign finance rules and for his refusal to change elections. Gipson served as senator from 2013 to 2015 before he was defeated by Sue Serino. Serino defeated Gipson again last year.

In 2014, Cuomo was challenged in a primary by Zephyr Teachout before defeating Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino to win a second term in the general election. Astorino and Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro are considering challenging Cuomo on the Republican ticket.
