DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. -- Republican John Faso has declared victory over Democrat Zephyr Teachout in the race for the state's 19th Congressional District, according to multiple reports.

Faso said that Teachout called to concede, the reports say. Video of Faso's victory celebration can be viewed at Time Warner Cable News.

Politico New York reporter Jimmy Vielkind tweeted that Faso said the following, “We need to change course in America. If we’ve learned anything during this presidential election, it’s that people want change”

Without 681 out of the Congressional district's corresponding election districts reporting, unofficial results from the New York State Board of Elections show Faso leading by 153,155 votes (51.64 percent) to Teachout's 126,538 (42.67 percent).

Meanwhile, 16,620 ballots (5.60 percent of the vote) were left blank, while 217 write-in votes were cast. Forty-three ballots were deemed to be void.

The win marks a political comeback for Faso, who is a former state assemblyman. He made an unsuccessful bid for state comptroller in 2002 and an unsuccessful bid for governor in 2006.

The sprawling 19th District, which is in the upper Hudson Valley, covers much of Dutchess County and goes up to the greater Albany region.
