DUTCHESS COUNTY, NY. -- A Dutchess County legislator could be the first ever legislator censured censure after comments he made Robert Balkind, the county public works commissioner.

Joel Tyner, who represents Clinton and Rhinebeck said Balkind was "following orders...just like the Germans 70 years ago," at a June 5 Democratic caucus meeting when discussing the county's takeover of the Poughkeepsie city bus system according to the Poughkeepsie Journal .

At a meeting Monday, Majority Leader James Miccio introduced a motion to censure Tyner. Tyner objected to the motion, which required unanimous support, according to the Poughkeepsie Journal .

A motion to censure Tyner was placed on the agenda for a committee meeting on July 6. If the committee approves the motion, the legislature will vote to censure Tyner on July 10.

Tyner said the attack was not pre-planned and said the county takeover of the bus system was an attack on democracy, according to the Poughkeepsie Journal .
