Kathi E. Norklun, 65, of Kingston was pronounced dead at Northern Dutchess Hospital after the crash that occurred around 10 a.m. on Slate Quarry Road near White Schoolhouse Road in the Town of Rhinebeck, according to Captain John Watterson of the Dutchess County Sheriff's office.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that a 2001 Ford Taurus driven by Norklun was traveling eastbound on Slate Quarry Road when it crossed over the center pavement markings and was struck head-on by a westbound 2010 Nissan Murano, Watterson said.
Norklun was the only occupant of her vehicle and the other vehicle had three occupants, all of whom were transported to MidHudson Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to Watterson.
No charges have been filed, and it appears as though Norklun was not wearing a safety belt, Watterson said.
The investigation into the crash is continuing by members of the Sheriff’s Office Crash Investigation Unit, and more information may be released as it becomes available.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by members of the Rhinebeck Fire Department, the Rhinecliff Fire Department, and Northern Dutchess Paramedics.
