Traffic Stop In Hyde Park Leads To Chase, Drug Arrest

HYDE PARK, N. Y. -- A 45-year-old Marlboro man is facing drug and other charges after Dutchess County deputies discovered him with cocaine following a police chase that started with a traffic stop along Route 9 in Hyde Park, according to the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office.

Richard Whitted is being held on charges of fifth-degree felony possession of a controlled substance, along with misdemeanors third-degree fleeing a police officer, aggravated unlicensed operation and operation without an ignition interlock device, police said. He was also charged with violation possession of marijuana and various traffic infractions, the Sheriff's Office said.

Dutchess County sheriff's deputies officers tried to make the traffic stop at about 8:30 p.m., Thursday, but the man drove off. He then took off on foot, police said.

Police found the cocaine after they caught up with the suspect, the office said. He was arraigned in the Town of Hyde Park Court and ordered held without bail pending his next court date, the office said.
