Rhinebeck Woman Unlawfully Collected $146K In Disability, Police Say

RHINEBECK, N.Y. -- Following a joint investigation into insurance fraud, New York State Police in Rhinebeck arrested 61-year-old Viola Stanton of Rhinebeck, on Tuesday, Nov. 17.

Her arrest came following a joint investigation conducted by the New York State Insurance Fund, and the New York State Police. It is alleged that Stanton unlawfully collected more than $146,000 worth state disability benefits between August of 2010 and November of 2015 while she was gainfully employed, police said.

Stanton was charged with second-degree felony insurance fraud, second-degree felony grand larceny; first-degree felony falsify business record and felony Workers Compensation fraudulent practices, police said.

She was arraigned before the Town of Rhinebeck Justice Court and released on her own recognizance. Stanton is due to reappear at a later date.
