The Red Hook Police Department received a call on Monday, Sept. 11 from a local female resident who reported that while she was walking on East Market Street between Vin’s Auto and Red Hook Auto she was approached by a man in a Toyota Corolla offering her a ride.

Police said that the woman reported that while talking, the man verbally identified himself as a law enforcement officer before offering a ride, prompting an investigation by detectives into the driver and his vehicle.

Investigators received a tip on Friday from a concerned citizen regarding a suspicious vehicle matching the description of the Corolla from Monday’s incident. Further investigation led police to a 19-year-old man who admitted to stopping and asking the woman if she needed assistance.

According to police, it’s been determined that the man is not a threat to the public, though the investigation is ongoing.
