"The condition of the stabbing victim, in this case, is improving, she is no longer in very critical condition," said Det. Lt. Matt Clark. "At this point in the investigation, this incident is not being investigated as a domestic violence incident."
The incident began when the Hyde Park woman was stabbed around 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday at 130 Mansion St., in the City of Poughkeepsie, according to police.
As the police were investigating the stabbing, a 2013 Nissan Altima driven westbound by Steven A. Vaughan, 32, of Poughkeepsie crossed the dividing barrier on the Mid-Hudson Bridge and struck a 2008 Ford Focus driven by Mark Ashby, 50, an Ulster County resident, in the eastbound lane, said state police.
Vaughan, the man police say was involved in the stabbing, and Ashby died at the scene. A passenger of the Ford Focus was transported to Westchester Medical Center with facial and internal injuries, state police reported.
A subsequent investigation revealed that Vaughan was involved in the stabbing incident prior to the crash, state police said.
Anyone with information is asked to call the City of Poughkeepsie Police at 845-451-7577.
