DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. -- A pedestrian who was struck by a car on Innis Avenue around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday is in serious condition at Westchester Medical Center, according to the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department

The accident occurred when a 36-year-old Poughkeepsie man was walking in or near the northbound lane and was struck by a 53-year-old Wingdale motorist near the south entrance to the Ridgefield Apartment complex, said Capt. Kenneth Roman.

The roadway -- which was closed for several hours as officers conducted an investigation -- has reopened, Roman said.

Alcohol use is not suspected of the motor vehicle operator, he added.

The department was assisted by the Arlington Fire District and Mobile Life.

The accident is under investigation and anyone who may have witnessed the accident or who has information is asked to contact the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department Traffic Enforcement Unit at 845-485-3680.
