New York Pays $450,000 To Family of Inmate Beaten In Prison

DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. - The Poughkeepsie Journal has released an investigation in which it found two dozen cases locally and 175 cases statewide where inmates said they were beaten by corrections officers received money from the state in lawsuit settlements.

The state paid the family of Steven Ostane $450,000, the highest amount paid in one of these cases since 2010, the Journal says.
