Just before 7 a.m. on Tuesday, police say they received a call from the New York State Bridge Authority regarding an unoccupied vehicle on the Kingston Rhinecliff Bridge.

As a result of an investigation, it was determined that the sole occupant of the vehicle had jumped off the bridge, police said. With assistance from marine units from local fire departments, a male was subsequently recovered from the Hudson River. The subject was transported to shore where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The deceased is a 54-year-old male from the Town of Ulster, police said. Police declined to release his name or any other details because it is an apparent suicide.

The Ulster Police Department was assisted by the New York State Bridge Authority, Ulster County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, East Kingston Fire Department, Ulster Hose Fire Department, Glasco Fire Department, and Mobil Life Support Services.
