Christopher Dam, 26, of Hyde Park, was charged Friday with attempted robbery in the first degree and criminal use of a firearm in the second degree subsequent to a armed robbery investigation conducted by the Bureau of Criminal Investigation and uniformed Troopers.
Dam entered the Citgo Station while armed with a shotgun and demanded money, state police from the Rhinebeck barracks said.
The owner of the Citgo station chased Dam out of the store. During a struggle that occurred outside of the store, a round was discharged from the shotgun which struck the ground.
Surveillance footage capturing the defendant robbing the gas station as released to the media and posted to social media offering a description of the suspect and his get-away vehicle.
As a result, information was received from the community which led to the identification of Dam as a suspect.
Dam was arraigned before the Town of Hyde Park Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail without bail. He is due to reappear in the Town of Hyde Park Court on Wednesday, Dec. 23.
The State Police expressed appreciation for valuable tips which helped lead to Dam's arrest.
