Dutchess Man Faces Drug Charges After Traffic Stop

A 60-year-old man from Dutchess County was arrested on drug charges following an otherwise routine traffic stop for an infraction.

At approximately 4 p.m. on Tuesday, members of the Ulster Police Department arrested Poughkeepsie resident Wilbert Dewitt following a stop on Main Street for a traffic violation in East Kingston.

According to police, during the subsequent investigation, officers determined that Dewitt was in possession of a quantity of marijuana, oxycodone pills and a small quantity of concentrated cannabis - also known as liquid cannabis.

Dewitt was arrested at the scene and charged with two counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, misdemeanors, and several traffic infractions for operating a motor vehicle with an expired inspection certificate and operating a motor vehicle without insurance. He was issued an appearance ticket and is due back int he Town of Ulster Justice Court later this year.
