Chris Collibee, with the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, said the female suffered the injuries around 2:15 p.m. Tuesday near the boat dock.

She was found after New Fairfield Police and Squantz Engine Company, State Police, and Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental (DEEP) Environmental Conservation Police (EnCon) were dispatched to Candlewood Lake, New Fairfield to assist in searching for a missing person in the water, he said.

Upon arrival, they found the victim was rescued from the water by a Good Samaritan vessel. The female victim was transported to Danbury Hospital with serious physical injuries, Collibee said.

During the course of the investigation into the incident, State EnCon Police identified an evading vessel that left the scene.

The operator Gary Morrone, 65, from Oakville was arrested by EnCon Police for the following violations; Reckless operation of a vessel, failure to help a collision victim, and failure to immediately notify law enforcement of injury.

Morrone was released on a $10,000 bond with a court date of July 3.

Officials did not divulge if Morrone had hit the swimmer or the circumstances surrounding the injury.
