A 21-year-old Newburgh man has been charged with stealing the identity of his twin brother in order to open a bank account, state police said.
Hutchinson of Newburgh has been charged with identity theft in the first degree (a Class D felony), forgery in the second degree (also a Class D felony) and criminal possession of stolen property (a Class A misdemeanor).
A state police investigation revealed that Hutchinson obtained a duplicate driver’s license belonging to his brother and used it to open the bank account in his brother’s name in Newburgh, police said.
Hutchinson also received a traffic ticket in his brother's name and signed his brother's name when returning his plea to the Town of New Windsor Court. Hutchinson received the ticket while presenting his brother’s license when stopped by troopers.
Mr. Hutchinson was arraigned at the Town of Newburgh Court where he was remanded to Orange County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash or $5,000 bond.
