William A. Kern, 72, Pleasant Valley Resident

PLEASANT VALLEY, N.Y. – William A. Kern of Pleasant Valley died Monday, Feb. 8, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. He was 72.

Born in Teaneck, N.J., on Dec. 6, 1943, he was the son of the late William and Dorothy Buttenbaum Kern. He was a graduate of Union College, class of 1969. He married Ingrid Soderblom on Dec. 1, 1973, in LaGrange. She survives at home.

He was employed by IBM in Fishkill as an electrical engineer and retired in 1994 after 30 years with the company. He was the owner of Dutchman Laundromat for many years. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Pleasant Valley. He was an integral part of the annual Pleasant Valley Weekend, as he helped to implement and organize the event each year.

In addition to his wife, Ingrid, he is survived by his three children, Britt Kern (Ben) of Mint Hill, N.C., William Kern (Rebecca) of Greenfield, Mass., and Katrina Kern of Pleasant Valley; four grandchildren; his sister, Carol Simmons, of Rochester; and a niece and several nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 13, at 1 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Pleasant Valley. A reception will follow in the church hall at 1:30 p.m. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
