Born March 2, 1924, in Poughkeepsie, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Mary Carroll Lake.
She attended Poughkeepsie schools. She enjoyed all music (especially country and western) and she was a member of the Hyde Park Senior Citizens Club. As a homemaker, her specialties were cooking and baking, and her grandchildren always looked forward to the birthday cakes she made for them each year.
On March 29, 1942, in Poughkeepsie, Ruth married Albert Broas Jr., who predeceased her in 1994.
She is survived by two sons, Gary A. Broas and Jeffrey A. Broas; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her children, Albert Broas III, Edward David Broas and Terri Lee Broas; and siblings, Ronald Lake and Betty Beavers.
There will be a period of visitation from 10-11:30 a.m., Tuesday at Sweet's Funeral Home, Route 9, Hyde Park. Funeral services will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the family plot at Union Cemetery of Hyde Park.
