Roswell LaDue Rossman, 96, Clinton Corners Native

CLINTON CORNERS, N.Y. — Clinton Corners native Roswell LaDue Rossman died Sunday, May 1. He was 96.

A graduate of Pine Plains High School in 1938, Rossman served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army artillery throughout North Africa, Italy, France and Germany.

He was granted an honorable discharge after attaining the rank of sergeant and was a recipient of the Purple Heart for injuries during the Anzio beachhead assault on Italy.

He later returned to duty in the Battle of the Bulge and is a member of the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor.

He was employed at Bower Memorials in Pleasant Valley as a monument engraver until his retirement in 1985.

He also was self-employed as a salesman and engraver of family memorials and industrial lettering in Hyde Park.

After retiring from the monument business, he delivered for Craig Dental Lab until his move to Florida in 1989.

He is survived by two daughters, Sandra Norton and her husband, William, and Carol Grimes and her husband, Everett; three grandsons, Chad Norton and his wife, Gina-Marie, Christopher Norton and his wife, Deanne, and Jourdan Matthews and his fiancée, Natasha Ovsepyan; his great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Riley, Avery, Allie, Alana, Jack, Arthur, and Ava; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, Roberta Northrup; his brothers, Ralph and Rodney Rossman; his sisters, Mabel and Harriet Rossman, and Frances Stump; and a niece, Judith Crouse.

Calling hours will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday, May 13, at Sweet's Funeral Home, Route 9, Hyde Park.

Graveside services and burial with military honors will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 14, at the Upton Lake Cemetery, Salt Point Turnpike, Clinton Corners.
