Roger A. Roth, 80, Pleasant Valley Resident

PLEASANT VALLEY, N.Y. – Roger A. Roth, of Pleasant Valley, died Tuesday, March 22 at Vassar Brothers Hospital. He was 80.

He was born May 20, 1935, in Kingston, to the late William and Rita Roth. He grew up in Pleasant Valley. He graduated from Arlington High School in 1953. After graduating, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in England from 1953-57. He worked for 38 years at IBM in Poughkeepsie before his retirement. In his younger days, he also was a bartender at the Stone Chimney, Talbots and Mike Cady’s in the Valley. 

He belonged to the American Legion Post 739 in Pleasant Valley and marched in its annual Memorial Day parade. He enjoyed playing in the Pleasant Valley softball league and racing his trotter horses at the Monticello, Saratoga and Yonkers raceways. He also was a huge New York Yankees fan and you usually could find him at a grandchild’s sporting event or fishing the Wappingers Creek on opening day. He enjoyed spending his winters in Port Orange, Fla.

He is survived by his children, Linda and her husband, William Kistner, Donna Roth, Daniel and his wife, Eileen Roth, and Kevin Roth; six grandchildren, William III, Robert and Andrea Kistner and Kristopher, Shane and Shawn Roth; brother, Gerald and his wife, Sandra Roth; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Monday at Allen Funeral Home, 1605 Main St., Pleasant Valley. Interment will be private.
