Richard (Dick) Friel, 77, Of Hyde Park

HYDE PARK, N.Y. -- Richard (Dick) Friel, of Hyde Park, died Friday, Nov. 11.

He was born Oct. 21, 1939, in Poughkeepsie, the son of Helen Terralavoro and Francis Friel. 

He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army. He worked for the New York State Department of Transportation for 37 years as a right-of-way agent in the real estate department. After retirement, he operated "Dick's Small Jobs," a home repair service. He loved jazz music, reading the newspaper every day and was an avid fan of the Marist women's basketball team, whose games he enjoyed going to with his good friend, Dick Dabros. He enjoyed his summers at Cape May and loved to travel. He loved working in his yard and eliminating every dandelion on his grass.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Fusar; children, Stacy Anderson and husband Bill, Ronda Reynolds and husband Mike and Richard and wife Jannette; grandchildren, Julia and Reed Friel, Courtany Hagen, Victoria Chenevert and husband Justin and Emily Barberi and husband Adam; great-granddaughter, Aurora; sisters, Jackie Optiz and husband Norman, Angela Miller and Carol Hegener and husband Hughes.

Calling hours will be from 4-6 p.m. Monday at Sweet's Funeral Home, Route 9, Hyde Park. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the family plot at St. Peter's Cemetery in Poughkeepsie.
