Peter R. Wilson Sr., 80, Pleasant Valley Resident

PLEASANT VALLEY, N.Y. – Peter R. Wilson, Sr., of Pleasant Valley, died Sunday, June 19. He was 80.

He was born April 1, 1936, at home in the south Bronx, to the late John Lincoln Wilson and Frances Eleanor Marshall Wilson. He was very proud of his Celtic heritage.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army in the early 1950s. He took great pride in the fact his father and four brothers all volunteered for the military, and served from World War I through Vietnam. In the mid-1970s, he served as the coordinator for the Veterans Outreach Program at Dutchess Community College.

In 1976, he was hired by Conrail Railroad as a bridge painter and retired after 35 years with Metro-North as a maintenance foreman.

On March 31, 1971, he married Kris Dolfinger at Lakeville Methodist Church in Lakeville, Conn. She survives at home.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters from a previous marriage, Mary Pelchar and her husband, Stephen, of Wilton, and Dawn Marie Sheehan and her husband, Bobby, of Wilbraham, Mass.; daughter, Erin Elizabeth Ciccone, of Pleasant Valley; grandsons, James, Tyler, Andrew (who is currently serving in the U.S. Coast Guard) and Benjamin; granddaughters, Karliegh Sheehan and Katie Elizabeth Ciccone; and many nieces and nephews throughout the country.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son from a previous marriage, Peter R. Wilson Jr.; brothers, John, Foster, Robert and Harold Wilson; and sisters, Alice Roach, Eleanor Hutchings and Patricia Catchcart.

There will be no calling hours. In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place.

In lieu of flowers, his family requests memorial donations to the American Cancer Society , 2678 South Road, #103, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601 or the American Heart Association , 301 Manchester Road, #105, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603.

Arrangements are under direction of Sweet's Funeral Home Inc., Route 9, Hyde Park.
