Mary Elizabeth Hanley Ward, 97, Of Rhinebeck

RHINEBECK, N.Y. -- Mary Elizabeth Hanley Ward, of Rhinebeck, died Tuesday, Aug. 9. She was 97. 

Born March 30, 1919, in Newburgh, she worked for the Ration Board during World War II, Sears Roebuck and Co., IBM, and at Ferncliff Nursing Home in Rhinebeck as a nurse's aide, where she worked for 10 years before retiring in 1985. 

She was a member of St. Christopher's Church in Red Hook, enjoyed ice skating, bowling, golfing and cultivating new friendships right up to the time of her death. 

She is survived by her three daughters, Jean Marie Clarke, Rose Markle and Kathleen Ward; sister, Katherine Witzke; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth Clarke, Bill Clarke, James Clarke, Erin Hoagland, Marissa Markle, Forrest Markle and Cameron Markle; and extended family and countless friends. 

Friends may call from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the Burnett & White Funeral Homes, 7461 S. Broadway, Red Hook. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Christopher's Church, 7411 S. Broadway, Red Hook. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Wappingers Falls.
