Keith K. Backer, 59, Of Pleasant Valley

PLEASANT VALLEY, N.Y. -- Keith K. Backer, a resident of Pleasant Valley, died Friday, May 6. He was 59.

Born on Nov.25,1956 in Monticelle, he is the son of the late William T. and Elizabeth E. Back.

He graduated from Monticello High School in 1974. He was a member of the Glaziers Union and worked for the NYS Department of Transportation. His career led him to Vassar College where he worked as a glazier. While working at Vassar College, he met Doreen Hammell, and on Jan.1,2011, they were married at Vassar College Chapel.

He is survived by his wife Doreen; sister Lorri Logan and her two daughters Erin and Caitlin; mother-in-law, Doris A. Hammell; sister-in-laws, Doris Jean Hammell, Margaret and her husband Lawrence Lovell, Ruth A. Hathaway, Denise and her husband Abe Kawaksheh, Karen and her husband David Doscher, Jodi Hammell; brother-in-law, Alfred and his wife Stacey Hammell; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by both his parents William T. and Elizabeth E. Backer and brother in law, James “Jimmy” J. Davis, Jr.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 10, from 4-8 p.m., at the Allen Funeral Home, 1605 Main St., Pleasant Valley. Funeral service will be held during visitation. Interment will be private.

Memorial donations may be made in Keith’s memory to Dutchess County SPCA , 636 Violet Ave., Hyde Park, NY 12538.
