John 'Jack' I. Lashway, 85, Rhinebeck Resident

RHINEBECK, N.Y. -- Rhinebeck resident John "Jack" I. Lashway died Monday, Jan. 25. He was 85.

Born in Plattsburg, Lashway was a correctional officer at the Green Haven Correctional Facility in Stormville. He retired in 1986, after 26 years of service. In his younger years, he was a deputy sheriff in Schoharie County.

Lashway loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter. In his retirement, he did wildlife artwork. He loved to travel, especially in the western United States.

He is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Janet (Bissett) Lashway; his son and daughter-in-law, Tod and Sally Lashway of Scottsdale, Ariz.; his daughter and son-in-law, Adrienne and Ben Burruby of Salt Point; and his grandchildren, Sharon Lashway, Jessica Johnson and her husband Joshua, Zachary Burruby, Jacob Burruby and wife Jillian, Sophia Burruby and Samuel Johnson.

Lashway was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Harriett (Reichardt) Lashway.

Visiting hours will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29, at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, at Pleasant Valley First Presbyterian Church on Route 44. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
