Joan E. Becker, 90, Of Hyde Park

HYDE PARK, N.Y. -- Joan E. Becker, 90, of Hyde Park, died Thursday, Sept. 8. She was 90.

She was born Aug. 6, 1926, in Brooklyn. 

She led an active life, raising five children and also was employed part time at the East Meadow Public Library on Long Island for several years. 

After moving to Hyde Park, she worked in the admissions office at Dutchess Community College in the 1970s and also part time at the Adriance Library and later the Hyde Park Free Library. 

She was active in the community with the Hyde Park Women's Republican Club for many years and also volunteered for Hyde Park Meals on Wheels. She also was a member of Catholic Daughters of America, Irenita Court. In 1984, at 58, she graduated from Dutchess Community College with an Associate of Arts degree. 

She is survived by her children, Stephanie, Paul, Kevin, Cheryl and Laurie; and three grandchildren, John, David and Alyssa Joan. 

She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Harold; and two sisters, Sheila and Margaret. 

Calling hours will be from 2-4 and 7-9. p.m. Monday at Sweet's Funeral Home, Route 9, Hyde Park. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Regina Coeli Church, Route 9, Hyde Park, followed by a graveside service and interment at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Rhinecliff. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hyde Park Meals on Wheels, 1 Church St., Hyde Park, Regina Coeli Church, 2 Harvey Street, Hyde Park, American Cancer Society, Hudson Valley Region, 121 Executive Drive, New Windsor, American Heart Association, Hudson Valley Region, 301 Manchester Rd., Suite 105, Poughkeepsie, or Alzheimers Association of the Hudson Valley, 2 Jefferson Plaza, Suite 103, Poughkeepsie.
