Gary M. Foster, 59, of Pleasant Valley

PLEASANT VALLEY, N.Y. -- Gary M. Foster, 59, of Pleasant Valley, died Friday, Sept. 23 after a lengthy illness.

He was born Jan.16, 1957, in Portland, Maine.

He was a well-known farrier, was highly respected by his peers and often was called upon for his expertise in his field. When he was a young man, he joined his father in raising and racing standardbreds in Maine.

He is survived by his wife, Melanie Torlish; son, Ian Foster; daughter, Nicole Apadula; grandchildren, Noah and Owen; and brothers, Steve, Tad, Irvin and Dana.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Dawn; and his brother, Guy.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Allen Funeral Home, 1605 Main St., Pleasant Valley. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. from the funeral home. Interment will take place Wednesday in Foster Cemetery in Wentworth, NH.

Memorial donations may be made to Hudson Valley Hospice, 374 Violet Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
